NATCHEZ &045; Radio station 95 Country will hold an area-wide pep rally from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bowie’s on Main Street to kick off its new weekly sports show, &uot;Live From the Locker Room&uot; &045; and everyone’s invited.
The show, whose regular time will be 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, will focus on two teams each week. On the air, they will interview players, coaches and parents, recap the week’s games and feature a player of the week for each show.
And they’re not just talking about Adams County and Concordia Parish teams, either. Hosts Andi Thornhill and Porky Smith plan to spotlight all sports, both boys’ and girls’, from public and private schools within a 50-mile radius.
Margaret Perkins, general manager for First Natchez Radio, said the station has wanted to air such a local high school sports show for at least a year now.
&uot;In the Miss-Lou area, sports is hugely popular Š People love to talk about it,&uot; Perkins said, noting that First Natchez stations already air a variety of college and professional sports. &uot;This is the first time that anyone has put the spotlight on this many schools at once.&uot;
So perhaps it’s no surprise that 95 Country has invited all teams, coaches and parents from schools within 50 miles to participate in Wednesday’s kickoff, as well as the general public.
&uot;We’re asking them all to wear their team jerseys,&uot; Perkins said. &uot;We’re expecting at least a partial group of Natchez High’s band members to be there, and we’re giving out a team spirit award, too.
&uot;We’re calling it the Miss-Lou’s largest pep rally.&uot;
