VIDALIA, La. &045; In what turned out to be an pretty evenly-matched game, C.J. Williams’ 31-yard fumble return proved to be the difference as the Vidalia Vikings, ranked No. 3 in Class 2A, came from behind to defeat the Block Bears, ranked No. 7 in Class 1A, 18-14 Friday night at Viking Stadium.

Michael Randall’s 107 yards of rushing and two touchdowns offset a off night by quarterback Tony Hawkins, who was just 4 for 13 passing for only 32 yards, with Randall catching three of those passes for 14 yards.

Vidalia took an 12-0 lead on touchdown runs of 14 and 6 yards by Randall, but both two-point conversions were unsuccessful.

Block rallied back as Michael Griffin scored on a 2-yard run late in the third quarter and on a 3-yard run midway through the fourth quarter. Jeremy Washington made both extra points to help give the Bears a 14-12 lead.

Griffin had 46 yards on 10 carries while quarterback Demetrius Bowie was 4-of-12 passing for 59 yards, with Washington catching all four of his passes.

Washington and Kevin Richey led Block’s defense with five solo tackles each.

Robert Walker had an outstanding defensive outing with 10 solo tackles, five assists and one sack to lead Vidalia’s defense. Steven Cooper added five solo tackles and two sacks for the Vikings.

Both teams’ offense struggled on this Friday night as the Vikings had 189 yards of total offense and the Bears had 143 yards of total offense.

Jefferson Co. 22, Yazoo City 0

FAYETTE &045; The Tigers and running back Earnest Havard smelled blood early and devoured Yazoo City with much success coming on the ground.

Havard ran for each of the three Jefferson County touchdowns, spread over the first, second and fourth quarters.

Havard scored the game’s first points on a 4-yard run, and Avery Hammett added a 2-point conversion run to put the Tigers up 8-0 with 6:50 left in the first quarter.

Havard came back in the second quarter with 7:47 remaining before the break with a 2-yard lunge and added the 2-point conversion run himself for a 16-0 advantage.

After a scoreless third, Havard came back in the fourth when he busted open a 17-yard touchdown run with 1:12 remaining in the contest.

For the night the junior back totaled 212 yards on 36 carries.
