Runoff votes just as important as others

Traditionally, runoffs don’t attract as many voters as regular primaries or election days do.
It makes sense, since often candidates in a particular district are on the ballot.
But it’s still a shame. The candidates in this Tuesday’s runoff deserve as much attention and consideration as any other voting day because of the importance of the offices they seek.
On the ballot on Tuesday will be candidates in Democratic primaries for supervisor districts 2 and 5 and southern district constable &045; but there will also be candidates for sheriff, which is of course a countywide post.
Each of those offices will have a role in shaping issues &045; particularly economic and quality of life issues &045; for Adams County residents over the next four years.
We hope in these final hours of the runoff campaign &045; and in the next two months before the general election &045; candidates will keep their campaigns clean.
We encourage voters on Tuesday to consider their choices carefully, weighing what a candidate says versus what he or she can actually accomplish in the limits of the office.
That said, we also encourage the candidates
who win to consider each other’s ideas. There is a reason each candidate is in the runoff; a lot of voters considered their ideas to be the right ones to take our county forward. Taking those constituents’ wishes into consideration certainly couldn’t hurt.
While two races will be decided on Tuesday, it isn’t the end of this long campaign season for many candidates. We hope the issues will be at the forefront as these hopefuls make their pitches to voters.
