NATCHEZ &045; Chase Brown scored five touchdowns and Trinity’s defense pitched its fourth straight shutout of the season as the Saints rolled to a 58-0 win over the Huntington Hounds Friday night at the Trinity Football Field.

It was not only the MPSA District 7-1A opener for both teams, but it was also Trinity’s homecoming game.

But on this night, as opposed to previous homecoming games in recent years, the Saints remained focused on their opponent as they improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in district play.

&uot;I think by far they’re the best team in 1A,&uot; Huntington head coach Hugh Hathcock said.

&uot;They’ve got good players at every position. They’re fast, they’re smart. Outstanding coaches. Good support from the community.&uot;

Brown picked off a pass from Huntington quarterback Hunter Norwood and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown about a minute into the game for a 6-0 Saints lead.

On Trinity’s next possession, Brown had a 26-yard touchdown run nullified by an illegal shift penalty, but on the very next play Brown, who had 64 yard rushing on three carries, went right, then back inside and then, with some good blocking, to left side for a 31-yard touchdown run with 6:27 to go in the first quarter.

Nason Stephens tacked on the extra point to give the Saints a 13-0 lead.

&uot;He (Brown) had a great ball game,&uot; Trinity head coach David King said. &uot;We made some good defensive plays.&uot;

Trinity’s defense then forced Huntington (1-3, 0-1) on a three-and-out and the Saints went to work on offense from the Hounds’ 49-yard line.

&uot;Our coverage was pretty good,&uot; Trinity assistant coach Matt Mason, who coaches on defense, said. &uot;We made a couple of mistakes. But overall we played good team defense.&uot;

How good is Trinity’s defense? The Saints held Huntington to just 16 total yards &045; all on the ground &045; and two first downs (one of those was on a penalty).

After a 13-yard run by Gregory Ketchings on 2nd and 10, Joey Wilson scored on a 36-yard run on which he got an outstanding block by wide receiver Dudley Guice Jr. Stephens’ extra point gave Trinity a 20-0 lead.

&uot;We made so many mistakes, yet we were able to capitalize on them,&uot; King said. &uot;I’m really pleased with the way we’re blocking. The line really dominated.&uot;

Trinity made it 26-0 on a 38-yard run by Ketchings, who had 96 yards rushing on just six carries, when he went up the middle and broke a few tackles with under a minute to go in the first quarter.

&uot;Trinity played real good,&uot; Hathcock said. &uot;Our kids just couldn’t compete with them. They all looked good to me.&uot;

Trinity scored 20 more points in the second quarter on a 14-yard run and a 45-yard interception return by Brown and a 25-yard run by Ketchings for a 46-0 halftime.

&uot;We made some mental mistakes, but we were able to get over them,&uot; King said.

&uot;We’ve got a huge test next week. (Oak Forest) is the defending 2A state champs. It’ll be a classic between two football powerhouses. I’m sure they’ll be 4-0.&uot;

With the score as lopsided as it was, both King and Hathcock agreed to play eight-minute quarters with the clock running in the second half.

Trinity scored its final 12 points in the third quarter on a 19-yard run by Brown and a 25-yard run by Brown.
