WOODVILLE &045;&045; A west Woodville home was extensively damaged by fire Monday morning.
No injuries occurred in the blaze, which was reported by neighbors at 7:20 a.m., officials said.
The home belonged to the Rev. Roosevelt Palmer, who pastors St. Mark’s Baptist Church in Woodville.
Palmer’s daughter and two granddaughters lived in the one-story dwelling on Browder Loop Road.
Palmer said his daughter was en route to work in Fayette when the fire was discovered.
One of his granddaughters was at Wilkinson County Elementary School and the other was in day care.
&uot;I’m just thankful my daughter and my grandkids weren’t in there,&uot; Palmer said, as volunteer firefighters sprayed water mixed with a fire-retardant chemical through windows to extinguish the blaze.
A 1962 Chevrolet Impala in the garage also suffered heavy damage. Two trucks from the Woodville and Wilkinson County Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene.
&uot;Once we got our hoses hooked up and got water on it, it took about 25 minutes to get it under control,&uot; Woodville Fire Chief Louis D’Aquila said.
Additional trucks from West Feliciana Parish, La., fire departments were called to Woodville and placed on standby.
&uot;We did have to get them to help us with a rekindling after our tanks were emptied,&uot; D’Aquila said.
D’Aquila said the cause of fire was under investigation, but the blaze appeared to have started in the laundry room of the house.
