Judge sentences dozen people in circuit court

LIBERTY &045; In Amite County, Sixth Circuit Judge Forrest A. Johnson has sentenced a dozen criminal defendants thus far in the current term of circuit court.

A synopsis of the cases based on records filed in the circuit clerk’s office:

4Bridget Latoya Smith pled guilty to a felony charge of burglary of a dwelling house. Smith was sentenced to 15 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections, concurrent with any other term she may be serving.

4Benjamin White pled guilty to a felony charge of burglary of a dwelling house. White was sentenced to 15 years in the MDOC, concurrent with any other term he may be serving.

4Earnest J. Lally was found guilty in a bench trial of a misdemeanor charge of simple assault. Lally was sentenced to three days in the Amite County Jail, suspended, and ordered to pay a $182 fine. Lally was also placed on non-reporting, misdemeanor probation for one year and ordered not to allow his dogs to harass the victim.

4Darren Womack was found guilty in a bench trial of a misdemeanor charge of simple assault. Womack was sentenced to three days in the Amite County Jail, suspended, and ordered to pay a $182 fine. Womack was also placed on non-reporting, misdemeanor probation for one year.

4Larry D. Isaac pled guilty to a felony charge of DUI third offense. Isaac was sentenced to five years in the MDOC and fined $2,000. The court further ordered that Isaac be placed in the Intensive Supervision Program within the MDOC for one year. Upon successful completion of the program, Isaac will be placed on post-release supervision for four years.

4Dorothy Jones pled guilty to a felony charge of embezzlement. Jones was sentenced to five years in the MDOC, suspended, with five years probation. Jones was also ordered to pay restitution of $13,323.66 to the victim, the Amite County School District.

4Terry Lynn Martin pled guilty to a felony charge of possession of a deadly weapon, a firearm, by a convicted felon. Martin was sentenced to three years in the MDOC and fined $1,000. After the fine is paid, two years of the term will be suspended, and Martin will be placed on post-release supervision for two years.

4Edward Lee Robinson pled guilty to a felony charge of DUI third offense. Robinson was sentenced to five years in the MDOC and fined $2,000.

The court further ordered that Robinson be placed in the Intensive Supervision Program within the MDOC for one year.

Upon successful completion of the program, Robinson will be placed on post-release supervision for four years.

4Cotrena W. Jefferson pled guilty to felony charges of burglary of a dwelling house (two counts). Jefferson was sentenced to 15 years in the MDOC on each count.

The sentences will be served concurrently with each other and with any other sentence she may be serving.

4Timothy Homan pled guilty to felony charges of manufacture of a schedule II controlled substance, methamphetamine, and possession of a controlled substance, more than 30 grams of methamphetamine.

Homan was sentenced to 20 years in the MDOC on each count and fined a total of $15,000. After serving one year and four months with credit for time served, the balance of the concurrent terms will be suspended and Homan will be placed on post-release supervision for five years.

4Anthony Tronnel Andrews pled guilty to a felony charge of DUI third offense. Andrews was sentenced to five years in the MDOC and fined $2,000. The court further ordered that Andrews be placed in the Intensive Supervision Program within the MDOC for one year.

Upon successful completion of the program, Andrews will be placed on post-release supervision for four years.
