Two drivers killed in Mississippi 33 wreck

CENTREVILLE &045; Both drivers were killed in a head-on collision Wednesday night on Mississippi 33 south of Centreville, authorities said.
Laskeshia S. Walker, 23, of Gloster and Lauren E. Reed, 21, of Baker, La. were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to Sgt. Rod Crawford of the Mississippi Highway Patrol’s Troop M. Reed’s 18 month-old son, Garrett Reed, survived the crash in a child restraint seat and was listed in good condition after being transported to local hospital, Crawford said.
&uot;The child was in a child restraint seat in the back seat. The only visible signs of injury were some minor burns caused by the straps,&uot; Crawford said.
The accident occurred 4 1/2 miles south of Centreville at approximately 9:08 p.m. when Walker attempted to pass a third vehicle in her southbound 1999 Mazda Protg, Crawford said.
Walker’s vehicle collided head-on with Reed’s northbound 1997 Saturn passenger car, Crawford said.
Crawford said both drivers were wearing seat belts, and air bags properly deployed in both cars.
Wilkinson County Coroner Travis Sharp ruled internal injuries as the cause of death for both victims. Crawford said the accident remains under investigation.
