NATCHEZ &045; While Natchez aldermen voted Tuesday to allocate $22,000 toward a countywide recreation program, it’s still unclear how much Adams County and the Natchez-Adams School Board would contribute.

&uot; There’s a possibility&uot; the county could contribute funding toward the project, &uot;but I’m not sure of what that amount would be,&uot; supervisors Vice President Darryl Grennell said Friday.

Grennell said the issue could be discussed at the supervisors’ next meeting, which is set for Oct. 27.

And although the school board has put its stamp of approval on an interlocal agreement for the project, board President Dr. Norris Edney said he does not know when that board will discuss recreation funding.

&uot; We’re between meetings, and we can’t discuss anything until our next meeting,&uot; Edney said.

A commission with members appointed by the city, county and school board is charged with planning &045; and getting on the ballot &045; a program of countywide recreation construction and improvements to existing facilities.

To do such planning, as well as &uot;selling&uot; of the ballot proposal, the commission asked in August for a total of $63,500 from the city, county and school board through September 2004.

Recreation Commission Chairman Joe Eidt said that budget request was faxed to all three boards.

As of now, the Board of Aldermen has been the only board to commit to a portion of the funding.

Aldermen and Mayor Pro Tem David Massey said in Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting that city officials had pared down that amount by one-third by providing in-kind services.
