WOODVILLE &045;&045; A Woodville man was arrested Thursday on a simple assault charge in connection with the alleged beating of a senior and star athlete at Wilkinson County Christian Academy.
Wilkinson County Sheriff Reginald Jackson said Johnny Greene, 50, of 132 Perry Lane, was taken into custody Thursday morning.
Greene is accused of assaulting Dustin Dore, 18, in the school’s parking lot Thursday morning.
&uot;We received a call from school officials on Thursday morning. Our investigation revealed that the incident may have stemmed from an alleged altercation between Green’s son and Dore at baseball practice the day before,&uot; Jackson said.
Jackson said Greene reportedly approached Dore as the student arrived at the school Thursday morning and asked him who he was.
&uot; When the student said he was Dustin Dore, Greene reportedly slammed the car door against his legs,&uot; Jackson said.
Jackson said Dore told officers he was able to get out of his car, but Greene continued assaulting him in the parking lot by striking him with his fists.
Dore’s mother, Ginger Cavin, said school officials called her to the school Thursday morning. Cavin said her son had suffered a cut to his face and abrasions to his hands and arms but was not hospitalized.
Jackson said Dore filed an affidavit against Greene Thursday charging him with simple assault.
Green was released after posting a $500 bond late Thursday, Jackson said. WCCA Headmaster Carrie Cupit would not comment on the incident Thursday.
Dore, an all-MPSA running back on the school’s football team, was selected as the 2003 Most Valuable Player in District 6A.
