NATCHEZ &045;&045; A joint effort from the Natchez Police Department, Metro Narcotics and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the confiscation of a considerable amount of drugs and paraphernalia Thursday night.

After a traffic stop investigation Metro Narcotics officers found 4.25 lbs. of marijuana, 19.6 grams of powdered cocaine, a bottle of promethazine with codine, $800 in cash, two scales and a 45 caliber automatic pistol.

As a result of the traffic stop officers went to a house on Florida Drive where they proceeded to search the house. During the search the suspect, Dashard Jackson, 19, 104 Florida Street, ran out of the house with a bag in hand. Metro Narcotics officers pursued Jackson and Officer Stanley Starks and his canine Rex tracked and retrieved the bag, Police Chief Mike Mullins said. Jackson later came back and turned himself in.

&uot;We don’t routinely get this much at one time,&uot; Mullins said. &uot;We have drug arrests almost weekly, but not this much.&uot;

Sheriff Ronny Brown said he was excited about continuing to work with the police department, metro narcotics and the district attorney’s office.

&uot;Mike and I are personal friends and we have the same ideas about drugs on the street,&uot; Brown said. &uot;We want to make the metro drug unit bigger and better.&uot;

Brown and Mullins expressed their thanks to Metro Narcotics officers for their work.

&uot;The fact that this weapon was found loaded demonstrates how dangerous this is,&uot; Mullins said.
