BOGALUSA, La. &045; Refs called the Huntington-Ben’s Ford contest with eight seconds left after a melee broke out between both schools Friday night at Ben’s Ford.

With eight seconds left and the Eagles holding a 64-57 lead, one Ben’s Ford player went up for a rebound, came over the back of a Huntington player and came down on his face on the floor.

That’s when things got ugly, Huntington head coach Brandon Gousset said.

&uot;One of their players jumped over our guy’s back, got called for a foul, fell and hit his face on the floor and jumped up wanting to fight,&uot; said Gousset, whose Hound club fell to 2-18, 1-9 with the loss in their final game in District 7-A.

&uot;We had to break that up, and the refs said the game was over. He sent both teams to the locker room without separating them, and the locker rooms are right next to each other. Parents got into it. For the next five or 10 minutes it was crazy. We had to put our players in the stands, let their guys get in and get their stuff and let ours go in.&uot;

The Hounds at least ended in a flurry after falling behind by as many as 20 points earlier in the game to the Eagles (5-7, 3-6). But at times throughout the game both teams were playing physical, Gousset said, before it spilled over at the end.

Score by quarters and individual scorers from the game were not available at press time.

&uot;It was pretty rough,&uot; Gousset said. &uot;The referees were letting some things go, but it wasn’t one-sided. It was both ways. They were calling a lot of fouls. The guy was on our back from what I saw, and he jumped up wanting to fight.&uot;

Gousset said Huntington staff members have the incident on tape if any action is necessary.

&uot;We’re trying to find a place to eat outside of Bogalusa,&uot; he said. &uot;We’ve got some bruises. A lot of punches were thrown, I can tell you that. Something is going to happen. The MPSA is going to get word of it. It was pretty crazy. We’ve got it on film. We saw something, and they saw something. We’ll let the tape prove it, I guess.&uot;
