LORMAN &045; The Alcorn State Lady Braves leaped out of the locker room at soared to an early 20-point advantage under seven minutes into the contest, as the Lady Braves disposed of the Lady Lions of UAPB, 77-58.

Alcorn never trailed in the contest, as Rasaan Powell, who accidentally got the nod due to a cut on usual starter Candace Roberts, did an outstanding job in the low blocks as she finished with a 13 points on the night.

After Powell canned the opening field goal, Alcorn took an early 4-0 advantage before the Lady Lions (2-20,1-12) split the difference following a LaToya Thomas lay up.

After that point there was no looking back as the Lady Braves cruised into the break with a 41-16 lead, which is their largest lead at recess this season.

In the second half, Alcorn got a tad lethargic as the defensive intensity picked up by the Lady Lions. Nevertheless, Arkansas Pine Bluff could not overcome a once 28 point deficit, despite making several brief runs to get within 19 points of ASU on several occasions.

Four Lady Braves posted double-digits as junior guard LaToya Johnson led all with a quiet 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field. Natasha Dennis and Tnonealyer Powers recorded 10 points each.

For the first time this season and possibly in history, three Lady Braves notched double-doubles as Powers, Johnson and Powell, complimented their scoring with 13, 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively.

Jasmine Lindsay and LaToya Thomas led the way for Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
