Vidalia outright champs after LHSAA ruling

LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. &045; Vidalia head coach Robert Sanders thought for sure that his Vikings, with a win over Lake Providence and a McCall win over Ferriday, would ensure a showdown between the two teams for the District 4-2A title.
He was half right, as the Vikings did
their part by defeating the hapless Panthers 62-41 Friday night in district action.
However, McCall, which was ranked No. 2 in Class 2A after being No. 1 for much of the season, learned earlier in the day that it had to forfeit all 28 of its wins for using an ineligible player.
That gave the Vikings the district championship and, after playing Newellton in a tune-up game and possible another one, a first-round playoff game at home probably against Springhill, which finished third in District 3-2A on Feb. 27, Sanders noted.
Vidalia (15-2, 8-0) got off to a good start on both ends of the court in the first half as the Vikings held Lake Providence (10-12, 4-4) to just five points in the first quarter and four in the second quarter en route to a 29-9 halftime lead.
The Panthers got their offense going in the third quarter, outscoring the Vikings 21-11 to cut the lead to 10 going into the fourth quarter. But any thoughts of an upset ended there as Vikings outscored them 22-11 to put it away.
&uot;We started out real well,&uot; Sanders said. &uot;The second half they caught fire, especially in the third quarter. But we were able to keep them at bay.&uot;
Cathedral 55, Enterprise 43
BROOKHAVEN &045; The Green Wave finished the regular season with a lot of momentum going into the Region 7-1A tournament.
And Friday was no exception, albeit this was against an Enterprise team that won just one game all season.
Cathedral (9-16, 6-6) will be the No. 5 seed and will face either Mississippi School for the Deaf or St. Aloysius in a first-round game.
The Green Wave took control of this game early, taking an 18-4 lead after one quarter of play and never looked back.
Turner Smith led Cathedral with 17 points. Smith (no first name given) led Enterprise (1-26, 1-11) with a game-high 22 points.
Warren Central 78, Jefferson 63
FAYETTE &045; Jefferson County had a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter. That would be the last time would have the lead over Warren Central for the rest of the game as the Vikings defeated the Tigers Friday night.
Warren Central (11-15) put away Jefferson County (12-17) in the second and third quarters. The Vikings outscored the Tigers 43-20 over that 16-minutes span.
