NATCHEZ &045; Jerry Lyles, who ran for Adams County supervisor in November, was arrested Monday and charged with three counts of false registration.
District Attorney Ronnie Harper said the case was being handled by the state attorney general’s office.
Officials from that office were not available for comment Tuesday.
Lyles was indicted by the grand jury during the first week of March.
Adams County Sheriff Ronny Brown said Lyles turned himself in Monday and was released after posting $5,000 bond.
Lyles was the Democratic candidate for District 1 supervisor, but lost to incumbent Republican Sammy Cauthen.
Lyles could not be reached for comment Tuesday evening.
An investigator with the Public Integrity Division of the Attorney General’s Office was in Natchez in October to investigate possible voter registration problems.
After the August primary, Cauthen alleged several felons were registered to vote in the primary.
He also alleged 300 to 500 voters were either registered to vote or moved to District 1 from January to August.
