NATCHEZ &045;&045; Emergency Watershed Protection funds will be available to help Adams County recover from February’s heavy rains.
The Board of Supervisors approved a request to accept funds from the EWP Monday morning on the condition that the county will look into the cost of doing the work itself.
Greenwood Subdivision Road qualified for $60,000 in EWP funds, while the intersection of Cloverdale and Lower Woodville Road qualified for $23,000 and the Robin’s Lake spillway qualified for $32,000.
If the county chooses to accept the funds they will have to provide a 25 percent match, or $32,500.
Supervisor S.E. &uot;Spanky&uot; Felter asked Road Manager Bobby Powell to see if the county could do the work for a cheaper amount. Because the county has fixed costs and already pays employees for their work, Powell said he didn’t expect the projects to cost the county more than $32,500.
The board also approved a request from Pike County to house the regional Homeland Security team in their county. Homeland Security Director George Souderes said Adams County would still be very involved in the team, it would just be based in Pike County. Adams currently houses the regional hazardous material team, which will undergo several rounds of training this spring, Souderes said.
