ST. JOSEPH, La. &045; Tensas Academy’s new baseball field was tough not only to Huntington but also to the home team in the MPSA District 7-A opener for both teams Friday afternoon.
Both teams combined to commit eight errors and despite the fact that Huntington committed five of them, the Hounds still were able to take a 7-2 win thanks to a solid outing by Jacob Bonnette and a big third inning.
&uot;This is (Tensas’) first year of baseball&uot; in several years, Hounds head coach Mitch Ashmore said. &uot;Their field was not conducive to baseball. But to tell you the truth, we didn’t play very well.&uot;
Bonnette went six innings, allowing just two hits and a pair of walks while striking out seven to pick up the win.
&uot;Jacob’s done well for us in his two starts,&uot; Ashmore said. &uot;He’s missing his spots, but he’s all around the plate.&uot;
The Hounds led just 1-0 after two innings but scored four in the top of the third inning to put the game away.

HAZLEHURST &045; After having their first three Division 7-3A games rained out, the Bulldogs were finally ready for some competition.
However, Hazlehurst proved to be
anything but major competition as the Bulldogs took just two innings to roll past the Indians.
Dan Griffin pitched a no-hitter, struck out five and allowed walked just one to get the win.
Despite the lopsided score, the Bulldogs (3-2, 1-0) had just nine hits, but got help from three Hazlehurst errors.
Trinity 12, Brookhaven 9
McCOMB &045; The Saints broke a 5-5 tie by scoring seven runs in the top of the seventh inning and held on for their first win of the season at the Parklane Tournament Friday afternoon.
Ryan Rachal, who relieved starter Andy Moon, pitched 3 1/3 innings to pick up the win.
Trinity (1-5) trailed the Cougars 5-2 after four innings, but scored three in the top of the fifth inning to tie the score.
Kyle Dunaway reached on an error, Clint Easom singled, and Gregory Ketchings walked to load the bases. Rachal then helped his own cause by doubling in all three runners.
Trinity then took the lead in the top of the seventh thanks to a two-run single off the scoreboard by Stevan Ridley, an RBI single by Moon, an RBI double by Dunaway and a two-run error by Brookhaven.
