VIDALIA &045; Aldermen on Tuesday voted to pre-file on ordinance placing the Vidalia Industrial Park within the city limits.
Putting the park inside the city will help the town recruit an industrial prospect, said Town Attorney Jack McLemore, who did not name the prospect.
Mayor Hyram Copeland, who was not present at Tuesday’s meeting, has said the action will give the park the town’s fire rating, put it under the city’s building codes and make the town eligible for more industrial grants.
&uot; We’ll have a public hearing on that (ordinance) at the next meeting,&uot; McLemore said, referring to the Board of Aldermen’s May meeting.
In other business, the board voted to go on record opposing a parishwide mosquito abatement tax that will be on the ballot Saturday.
&uot;I feel that Vidalia’s business and residents don’t need another tax&uot; for services that wouldn’t be as good as the abatement services the town now provides within its city limits, said Alderman Jon Betts.
