County needs quick solution to speeding

The fact that Adams County is fifth in the state for per capita deaths on its roads should make not only local officials but also area drivers stop &045; or at least slow down &045; in their tracks.
The solutions to the problem of speeding drivers are varied, and they don’t all have the desired effect.
Education, a tactic Adams County Sheriff Ronny Brown hopes to use, is one part of the answer, but it isn’t the only thing that will keep drivers, passengers and innocent bystanders safe.
Speed bumps are an easy option many local officials turn to, but it’s too easy an option that doesn’t work well.
The state Legislature has, for three years now, failed to take up a bill that would allow Mississippi sheriff’s departments to use radar to catch speeding drivers. We’re one of two states in the nation, in fact, that does not allow the practice. It seems a logical conclusion that using radar would help curb the problem &045; and in turn help curb car crashes, injury and death.
In any case, local officials cannot drag their feet in finding solutions to the speeding problem in Adams County.
