BROOKHAVEN &045; The Adams Christian Lady Rebels committed seven errors in a 10-5 loss to Brookhaven Academy Tuesday.
Some of the errors came at the worst times, including a ground ball in the gap in the outfield that got past the outfield and rolled all the way to the fence for an inside-the-park three-run home run.
That put the BA lead at 4-0. The Lady Rebels scored two in the fourth when April Dillon doubled in Katie Ann Swinny and Katie Givens, but Brookhaven tacked on six more in the sixth for a 10-2 lead.
&uot;Errors cost us big in this game,&uot; AC head coach Rick Fife said. &uot;They scored three runs on that one error. We’re making them at critical times in the game with people on base. I think our youth is showing right now.&uot;
The Lady Rebels (4-7) got three in the seventh. Jessica Porter singled in Lauren McCoy and Swinny, and April Dillon scored on a Tara Gillespie fielder’s choice.
Monterey 8, Harrisonburg 2
HARRISONBURG, La. &045; It’s been tight all season, and things finally worked out for Monterey Lady Wolves in their final game of the season.
The Lady Wolves (13-13-2, 1-5) scored early to get a good lead on Harrisonburg before finishing it off for their first win in District 3-B.
&uot;We showed up to play today,&uot; Monterey head coach Hazel Brallier said. &uot;They did a real good job. Our district was pretty close. It was one run here or there, an error here or there &045; and that was the difference in the game. We had four seniors this year, but we’re still going to be strong the next couple of years.&uot;
The Lady Wolves got a run in the first on consecutive doubles from Heather Robertson and Cassie Kennedy. In the fourth they scored four to take a 5-0 with Laura Reese singling in Leslee Woodruff and Brittany Woodruff and Whitney Roark singling in Reese.
After Harrisonburg got a run in the third off starter Roark, Monterey got three more in the fifth with two coming on bases-loaded walks.
Robertson and Kennedy were each walked with the bases loaded to score Brittany Woodruff and Reese.
