Vital issues on ballot for Concordia voters

Concordia Parish voters go back to the polls Saturday for runoffs and for a referendum on a mosquito abatement tax.
For Ferriday voters, the choice between incumbent Mayor Glen McGlothin and challenger Gene Allen is an important one.
Not only did just a few votes separate the two in the primary, there are a number of issues the next mayor will be charged with in Ferriday &045; from downtown revitalization to economic development. It is important that Ferriday voters choose the right person to lead the community into the future.
Also on the ballot are runoffs for three Concordia Parish School Board seats. The elections for these offices have been delayed twice because of redistricting problems, so it is also important that voters make their voices heard.
Finally, the 4.1-mill, 10-year tax referendum for mosquito abatement is something for which we know voters will want to have a say. This is something that could cost taxpayers money or help save lives from West Nile &045; depending on how you look at it &045; and it is not an issue that should be decided by only a few.
