Rams open playoffs with win; Wolves roll up Epps

HAYNESVILLE, La. &045; Wilkinson County Christian Academy took the opening game of its Class A best-of-three playoff series thanks to a rally in its last at-bat over Claiborne for a 13-11 lead.

The Rams trailed 11-9 heading into the top of the seventh inning before rallying to score four and take the two-run lead. Steven Goulette had a key hit in the rally.

The Rebels opened with a 9-3 lead after two innings on WCCA starter Brad Pritchard, who went six innings before Collin Dor pitched the seventh for the save.

The two teams will play Friday.

Monterey 11, Epps 1

MONTEREY, La. &045; The Wolves needed just five innings to put away Epps and claim a spot in the Class B playoffs.

Ryan Kemp tossed a no-hitter despite walking five and hitting a batter. He also struck out six.

&uot;He didn’t have his best stuff today,&uot; MHS head coach Hank Zizzi said. &uot;We turned a double play. He’d fall behind in the count, but the defense was behind him.&uot;

Max Green doubled in a run in the first and two in the second.

Centreville 5, Columbia 4

CENTREVILLE &045; The Tigers closed the door in the seventh after Columbia scored a run and had two others on base.
