NATCHEZ &045; Just like a month ago, 150 players from throughout the nation were treated to good weather and good hospitality in Week No. 2 of the 2004 Isle of Capri Gals-N-Pals Series at the Beau Pr.

Several states were well represented &045; Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and even New Mexico and Wisconsin.

The only difference this time was that the 150 players had to deal with warmer temperatures and a little more humidity &045; but it didn’t bother anyone at all.

Especially Rex and Heather Williams of Houston, Texas, who broke a four-way tie for fourth place after round one with a final-round, 4-under-par 68 on Tuesday to win the championship flight with a two-day score of 138.

&uot;We played OK yesterday and played better today,&uot; Rex Williams said. &uot;Today we just made more putts. We hit the ball straighter. We just settled down and decided to play better.&uot;

Oddly enough, the three teams that were tied for first place after Monday’s first rounds with rounds of 3-under 69 &045; Wayne and Jan Leach, Pete and Barbara Staley, and Bill and Dale Leonard &045; failed to qualify this time for the Grand Finale in August, but still have three more chances to do so.

Larry and Becky Siler, one of several teams from Hot Springs Village, Ark., shot a blistering 5-under 67 Tuesday after struggling to shoot even-par 72 Monday and finished one shot back at 139.

&uot;We sank a few putts today,&uot; Becky Siler said. &uot;We got it closer to the pin.&uot;

&uot;Yesterday it was 40 feet (from the pin) and today it was 10 feet,&uot; Larry Siler said. &uot;She made a 50-foot putt for birdie on 16. She missed her putts yesterday. The course was great. The greens were true. It’s a great tournament.&uot;

Bernie and Nona Mullen, also from Hot Springs Village, finished third in a scorecard playoff on No. 11 over the Staleys after shooting back-to-back 70s to finish at 140. They, too, were tied for fourth going into Tuesday’s final round.

&uot;Yesterday we didn’t have any bogeys and today we had two,&uot; Nona Mullen said. &uot;He made several nice putts.

Mike and Sharon Medica, also from Hot Springs Village, shot a 1-over 73 to finish first in the second flight with a two-day score of 150.

&uot;This is our third year down here and we’ve enjoyed it every year,&uot; Mike Medica said. &uot;Yesterday we didn’t play that well because of the tough pin placements. Today we played better. &uot;

Jim and Lois Potvin, also from Hot Springs Village, finished a solid second in the third flight with a two-day total of 156.

Troy and Carrie Williams of Dallas took first place in the fifth flight at 178.
