GLOSTER &045;&045; The Town of Gloster will receive a $10,224 USDA Rural Development grant to help buy a new police car, U. S. Rep. Chip Pickering announced Tuesday.
Pickering said government should support public safety efforts in small towns. &uot;Rural counties face the same law enforcement challenges as other areas in the state, and it is important we assist in providing the resources needed by Gloster’s police,&uot; Pickering said.
Gloster Mayor Bill Adams said town officials are already planning to purchase the new patrol car through state contract. &uot; We’ll have to put up about $5,000 to go with the grant,&uot; Adams said.
The town will outfit the new car with lights and equipment from an older patrol car, Adams said.
