NATCHEZ &045;&045; Two inmates were arrested Tuesday for aiding in the Saturday escape of Darryl Beckem, but Beckem has not yet been found.
Terry Jerome Bindon, 28, 13 Albert Road, and Shawn Thomas Noble, 18, 2 Purnell Hill, were charged with aiding escape.
The two men allegedly helped Beckem remove wiring from the bottom of a fence in the city jail exercise yard Saturday morning. Beckem proceeded to crawl under the fence and escape while the jailer on duty was inside the building.
Beckem was arrested Friday on charges of armed robbery, kidnapping and car jacking following a May 23 incident. Police Chief Mike Mullins said they had received several calls but had not located Beckem. Beckem was arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at a man on Broadway Street and forcing him to drive onto Briel Avenue where Beckem and another man took less than $50 from the victim. They then forced the man to drive to Bluff Street where they fled on foot.
After setting up surveillance, Natchez police saw the suspects Friday, Beckem and Adam Jewon King, get into a car. Police then chased the car for a short distance until the men fled on foot. Minutes later NPD made the arrest in the South Canal Street area.
Charges against Beckem now include armed robbery, kidnapping, carjacking, possession of cocaine, possession of a concealed weapon by a convicted felon, malicious mischief and felony escape.
The jailer on duty Saturday was responsible for the six men in the exercise yard and was to stay in the yard at all times. Mullins said he would be disciplined according to policy for leaving the area.
NPD is offering a substantial reward for information leading to an arrest of Beckem. Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers at 442-5000. Information will remain anonymous.
