BASTROP, La. &045; Erin Hedrick was throwing her sixth game in four days. And the Lady Hounds were doing the same right behind her.
So Huntington might not have had much to give Tuesday night at Prairie View, but the young squad found a way to win. Hedrick
wasn’t on her game, the Lady Hounds made eight errors but yet the team pulled off a 13-10 win on the road in five innings.
&uot;It seemed like everybody on the team made one error,&uot; Huntington head coach Rut Horne said. &uot;But they hit the ball. (Errors were) routine stuff. But we battled and found a way to win, and that’s what counts. The mistakes we made, hopefully they’re correctable. We’re getting to the point where we need to start catching those pop-ups.&uot;
The hitting carried the team in this contest. Down 9-8 heading into the fifth inning, the Lady Hounds rallied to take a four-run lead. Sarah Loomis led off by reaching base on an error in the outfield, and Bethany Morace singled up the middle.
Loomis scored on a passed ball, and Morace scored from third when a throw to get her at the plate sailed wide for a 10-9 lead. Jessi Lee singled to left, Hedrick singled up the middle to score Amberlee Collard and Brandy Butts sinled to right field to score Lee and Hedrick.
The Lady Spartans rallied in the bottom half and tacked on a run off Hedrick before putting another runner on base with two outs. The next batter lined one to the fence, but Bethany Morace made a diving grab to end the game.
&uot;The pitching wasn’t there,&uot; Horne said. &uot;Erin didn’t have any zip. She was tired. She pitched four games Saturday and nine innings last night. She told me she didn’t feel like she could break a window pane, but she battled.&uot;
