VIDALIA, La. &045; Around 20 people were on hand at Monday night’s Concordia Parish Police Jury meeting to ask the board to repair Fisherman and Tumminello Drives.

The roads, leading to Lake Concordia, are severely damaged and not safe for travel, group spokesman Vick Vegas said.

&uot;It’s the most dangerous and substandard road in the parish,&uot; said Vegas, who lives on Lakeshore Drive. &uot;There are numerous people who want to travel on the road and won’t.&uot;

Vegas said there are several fishing camps, subdivisions and businesses that could be more quickly reached if the road were fixed. He said many residents of other locations come to the area, bringing tourism money to the parish.

If the road were travelable, .6 of a mile would be cut from most people’s trips, Vegas said.

&uot;This parish has been very progressive, but this has somehow slipped through the cracks,&uot; he said. &uot;There is a sharp turn that is dangerous, and there is no sign. The road is un-drivable. There’s not an American car on the market that could drive that road.&uot;

Jury President Melvin Ferrington told the crowd that he understood the importance of the road but that the funds were not there.

&uot;We have run out of road funds,&uot; Ferrington said. &uot;We don’t have any.&uot;

As an alternative, the Jury passed a resolution to ask state Rep. Bryant Hammett if there was grant money that could be used to repair the road.

The Jury also received a copy of the financial report to review before the next meeting. Adopting a revised budget will be on the next agenda.

Secretary Russell Wagoner asked the board to review the finances and look for areas to cut because the money in the general fund was so limited.

&uot;We won’t have enough money to pay bills on Jan. 1 if we don’t do something right now,&uot; Wagoner said. &uot;We are going to have to do something and it is going to have to be drastic.&uot;
