Voter registration ends soon for November

Unregistered voters only have a few more days before the deadline to register to vote in November’s presidential election.
In fact, the Adams County Circuit Clerk’s office will be open through Saturday &045; the Mississippi deadline &045; so that potential voters can sign up right until the last minute. In Louisiana, the deadline to register is Monday, and the Concordia Parish voter registration office will be open the rest of this week and Monday for people wishing to sign up.
Adams County Circuit Clerk M.L. &uot;Binkey&uot; Vines will be visiting area schools this week to sign up younger voters.
With so many important issues being debated &045; from the war in Iraq and the war on terrorism to homeland security and economy security &045; we can’t imagine why someone would not want his or her vote counted in the presidential election.
But voter apathy still seems to grow every year &045; when only about a fraction of eligible voters actually register to cast their ballot, and only a fraction of those people actually show up to vote, we aren’t exactly upholding the ideals of democracy our forefathers set out for us.
We hope those who are not registered &045; especially young people who can begin their civic duty early &045; will sign up this week to let their voices be heard on election day.
