NATCHEZ &045; The intersection of Lower Woodville Road, Col. John Pitchford Parkway and Cloverdale Road has been a thorn in the side of county officials and those who travel the roads for almost a year now, and it’s not over yet.

The intersection will close starting Monday for about six weeks so workers can install box culverts. Drainage work on the intersection began last spring and had the area closed for months.

The reconstruction of the intersection was aimed at making the spot safer for large logging trucks and vehicle, County Engineer Jim Marlow said.

Installing box culverts is the last major step in the project, he said. After that work is complete the intersection should reopen to traffic.

Marsha Maxie, owner of Maxie Mart located at the intersection, said she is dreading the road closure.

&uot;I don’t understand why it wasn’t done when the road was closed before,&uot; Maxie said. &uot;It probably will affect my business again. It’s like coming to a dead end.&uot;

Maxie, who said her business almost closed during the last roadwork, said business did increase while the road was open.

Billie Hinson of Herring Gas Company on Col. Pitchford Parkway said she wasn’t expecting the closure to have a major effect on their business.

&uot;They can go around,&uot; she said. &uot;I sometimes come to work that way, but I’ll go around. It’s not that far out of the way.&uot;

Hinson said she was glad the county did the work on the intersection because of the safety issue.

&uot;I do like what they did,&uot; she said. &uot;I was scared to go down there before and meet one of those log trucks.&uot;
