Lady Vikings pound JC; Adams boys, girls win

VICKSBURG &045; Warren Central shot on the goals of its new home court for only the third time, but they acted as if it was a routine practice.
Warren Central used a 21-0 run between the third and fourth quarters to pull away with a dominant defensive effort for a 67-28 win at the Vicksburg-Warren Central tournament. Cookie Johnson hit three 3-pointers and finished with 18 points to lead the Lady Vikes (1-0), and Carla Latham chipped in 12.
Ninette White led Jefferson County (0-2) with seven points.
&uot;I thought we came out in the third quarter and just really got after them,&uot; WC coach Donny Fuller said. &uot;We go into halftime up by 14, and the next thing I know, I look up and we’re up 30.&uot;
Warren Central advances to face Provine, which defeated Forest Hill 76-35.
Jefferson County falls to the losers’ bracket against Forest Hill on Thursday.
WC’s full-court press forced Jefferson County into 37 turnovers. The Tigerettes made only 10 of 42 (.238) shots, yet were within 15 points early in the third quarter.
But once WC’s 21-0 run finally ended, the Lady Vikes found themselves up 62-25 with less than five minutes remaining. By then the deep reserves were in the game and WC cruised to its first win of the season.

Adams boys 54, Amite 25
LIBERTY &045; No transition needed here.
Many of the Adams Christian Rebels just walked off the football field on Friday night and got on the hardwood Tuesday to help the team pound Amite School Center 54-25 in the season opener.
The AC Rebels jumped out to a 15-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and led 31-19 at halftime. Adams then outscored the Amite Rebels 12-2 in the third to lead 43-21 heading into the fourth quarter.
Adams forward Clay Gould led all scorers with 20 points, while Timmy Foster had 12. Amite’s top scorer was Cox with 12.
ACCS girls 47, Amite 38
LIBERTY &045; Adams Christian had to fight off a pesky Amite team in the fourth quarter to take the win.
Both teams were tied up at 33 heading into the fourth quarter, but Adams Christian pulled away with a 14-5 run to close it out. Amite led 12-11 after the first quarter and 21-20 at halftime before AC battled back to tie it up.
Ariana DeLaSalle and Katie Ann Swinny led Adams with eight points apiece.
Wilkinson girls 63, South Pike 38
MAGNOLIA &045; The Lady Wildcats wasted little time on Tuesday and disposed of the Lady Eagles in commanding fashion.
Wilkinson (2-1) took a 17-7 lead by the end of the first quarter and muscled out to a 34-19 lead at halftime. That lead grew to 50-30 heading into the fourth quarter.
Latasha Williams and Nakia Stewart led the Lady Wildcats with 20 points each.
Wilkinson boys 73, South Pike 57
MAGNOLIA &045; The Wildcats (2-1) got another huge game from Gemall Andrews, and this time it was crucial.
Andrews finished with 28 points and had 18 points from Bryan Dent to help the Wildcats’ cause. A good bit of it came in the second half when the Wildcats outscored the Eagles 23-7 in the third quarter and 18-17 in the fourth.
Huntington girls 55, WCCA 24
WOODVILLE &045; The Lady Hounds kept with the pressure against WCCA, and it turned into a big night for their guards.
The Lady Hounds led 13-6 at the end of the first quarter and used a 17-3 run in the third to take a 38-18 lead heading into the fourth quarter. There Huntington outscored the Lady Rams 17-4.
Katie Moak had 14 points to lead Huntington, while Emily Anders had 10.
Huntington boys 40, WCCA 17
WOODVILLE &045; The Hounds unveiled some defensive pressure in their opening night of the 2004-05 season, and they did it real quick.
Huntington held a 12-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and outscored the Rams 14-4 in the second to lead 26-6. The Hounds then led 31-11 heading into the fourth quarter.
Mike Ferguson led the Hounds with eight.
Forest Hill 60 boys, Jefferson 55
VICKSBURG &045; Forest Hill broke a 22-all halftime tie with a 16-12 third quarter and held on to win at the Vicksburg-Warren Central tournament.
Kevin Sims led the Rebels with 20 points and Brandon Brinson chipped in 13.
Kadon Day scored 20 points to lead the Tigers, who will face Warren Central in the losers’ bracket.
