NATCHEZ &045; The two individuals killed in Monday night’s car crash have been identified as Jeremy W. Mills of Natchez and Eleanor P. Beam of Baton Rouge, La.
According to a Mississippi Highway Patrol accident report Mills, the driver of a 1980 Chevrolet 350 pick-up truck, was driving in the wrong lane while traveling north on U.S. 61 South near Sibley. Mills collided with Beam’s 2002 Nissan Maxima, which was traveling south, sending his truck into flames.
Mills, 659 Kingston Road, was 19. Beam, 12586 Mollyea Drive, Baton Rouge, La., was 65.
Coroner James Lee said Monday night that he suspected both drivers died on impact.
Authorities on the scene Monday night had to use the Jaws of Life to remove both drivers from their cars.
The flames that engulfed the front end and the cab of Mills truck severely burned his body, making identification on the scene impossible. Lee said Monday that dental records would be used to make a positive identification. Both bodies were sent to Jackson for autopsies to determine the exact cause of death, Lee said.
The accident occurred about one mile north of the Wilkinson County line just outside of Sibley, the MHP report said.
Adams County Sheriff’s officers, Wilkinson County Sheriff’s officers, Natchez firefighters and volunteers from the Lake Montrose Fire Department were on the scene along with the MHP.
The accident occurred on the portion of U.S. 61 under construction to make the existing two-lane highway into a four lane. The cars were traveling in the portion of the highway that was two-lane.
