AJFC hosts resources meeting

NATCHEZ &045; Social services agencies from throughout the Natchez area will take part in the annual Community Resource Forum from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Natchez Convention Center.

Sponsored by the AJFC Community Action Agency Head Start, the forum will bring together representatives from business, education, government, law enforcement, charities, foundations and other services. Each group will have booth space and an opportunity to tell forum participants about what they can do to help.

&uot;This is the fifth year we’ve sponsored the forum,&uot; said Royal Hill, family and community partnership manager for AJFC Head Start. &uot;We do this to enhance the resources provided to our Head Start families as well as to let everyone in the community know about these resources.&uot;

Robert Walker, former mayor of Vicksburg and now a professor at Jackson State University, will be the keynote speaker. His talk is titled, &uot;Dwindling Funds for Social Services,&uot; Hill said.

&uot;He will talk about how less money may be available today for providing the services but that we can’t let that stop us from doing what we have to do,&uot; Hill said.

AJFC Head Start serves 1,046 pre-school children, 400 in Natchez and the rest in two other Adams County facilities and in Amite, Wilkinson and Jefferson counties.
