SICILY ISLAND, La. &045; Despite having four players scoring in double figures, the Vidalia Vikings could not stop or even slow down Sicily Island’s Nick Drumgoole, who scored a game-high 33 points and had the game-winning dunk with 2.1 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Tigers a 73-72 overtime win Tuesday night.

With just 6.6 seconds left the Tigers inbounded the pass to Drumgoole, who outjumped Vidalia’s Marvin Warner and went in for the slam dunk with 2.1 seconds left.

Another thing Vidalia (3-2) was unable to do was continue to build on a big lead &045; not once, but twice.

&uot;In the first and third quarters we had big leads,&uot; Vikings head coach Robert Sanders said. &uot;We led by as many as 15 in the first quarter and 20 in the third quarter.&uot;

Even trailing by such big deficits, Drumgoole, along with teammates Ceddric Finister, who finished with 14 points, and Ricky Dunbar, who had 13 points, made sure the Tigers did not panic.

Sicily Island cut into Vidalia’s 15-point lead and by the end of the first quarter trailed 17-8. The Tigers then got their offense going in the second quarter as they outscored the Vikings 19-12 and were only down by two, 29-27, at halftime.

And just when it appeared that Vidalia was going to roll to a victory after going up by 20 in the third quarter, Sicily Island once again cut into the Vikings’ lead late in that quarter, which ended being eight points, 53-45, as the fourth quarter started.
