WOODVILLE &045; Latasha Williams had without a doubt the best game of her career as she poured in 39 points to help the Wilkinson County Lady Wildcats defeat the McComb Lady Tigers 74-65 Tuesday night in a battle of two teams that had identical 3-1 records going into this game.
Williams had plenty of help from teammates Erica Lewis and Kim Griffin, who each finished with 14 points for the Lady Wildcats (4-1).
S. Morris led the Lady Tigers (3-2) with 20 points and S. Felder had 19 points, but they had no other players score in double figures.
After a close first quarter in which Wilkinson County led just 15-12 at the end of that quarter, the Lady Wildcats took command of the game over the next two quarters, outscoring McComb 26-18 in the second quarter and 14-10 in the third quarter to take a 15-point lead.

WOODVILLE &045; After a sluggish start in the first quarter, the Tigers methodically got back in the game Tuesday night and eventually proved why they could end up being one of the best teams in Class 4A this season.
McComb (5-0) trailed Wilkinson County (3-2) 16-10 after one quarter of play and was down by one, 31-30, at halftime, but the Tigers took the lead for good with a 24-13 advantage in the third quarter.
Gemall Andrews lead the Wildcats with a game-high 22 points and Bryan Dent added 14 points. C. Daniels and D. Addison led the Tigers with 15 points each.

NATCHEZ &045; How embarrassing is it when one player from one team almost scores as many points as the other team scores? The Green Wave found that out first hand Tuesday night as the Cobras’ Adrian Merchant scored a game-high 40 points in their lopsided win.
Wesson (3-3) scored at least 20 points in all four quarters and Cathedral (1-2) never had a chance in this game, especially after the first quarter.
Jeremy Davis led the Green Wave with nine points. Wade Williams added 18 points for the Cobras.

Mattie Smith led Cathedral (0-3) with a game-high 14 points. Alexis Crosby led Wesson with 12 points.
Ferriday boys 73, Block 43
FERRIDAY, La. &045; The Trojans were probably glad to see their basketball season get under way Tuesday night after a disappointing season in football. The Bears, on the other hand, probably wished the playoffs hadn’t ended so soon.
Ferriday (1-0) jumped out to a 21-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back from there.
The Trojans then put the game completely out of reach by outscoring the Bears (0-1) 21-6 in the third quarter.
Antonio Burns led Ferriday with a game-high 25 points. Walter Hankston led Block with 12 points.

Franklin County (2-1) took a 14-6 lead over West Lincoln after one quarter of play, and even though they won the Lady Bulldogs were never able to put away a feisty Lady Bears team led by Alicia Kennedy, who scored a game-high 26 points.
Ferriday girls 69, Block 54
FERRIDAY, La. &045; Other than the first quarter, in which the Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Bears 23-10, this was a close game as the home team only had a two-point advantage over the final three quarters in the season opener for both teams.
Jameca Garrison picked up where she left off last season, leading Ferriday (1-0) with a game-high 27 points. Corinthia G. led Block (0-1) with 25 points.

MONTEREY, La. &045; The Lady Wolves found themselves trailing at halftime 30-20 after a surprisingly disappointing second quarter in which they scored just six points, but a strong second half rally enabled them to get the win and improve to 9-3.

Crystal Springs girls 55, JC 42
FAYETTE &045; Jefferson County’s girls took another loss Tuesday night, this one at the hands of Crystal Springs, which won 55-42.

Jefferson Country got into the scoring act in the second half, putting 34 points on the board, but couldn’t overcome a 22-8 halftime deficit.
Vanteska Williams led Jefferson County with 14 points.
