Don’t forget to shop and give at home

It’s a good barometer for the local economy: Merchants in the Miss-Lou said they were busy on the day after Thanksgiving, the so-called &uot;Black Friday&uot; and one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
Not only were local residents out trolling for sales, a number of visitors in town were hunting down Christmas gifts, too.
That’s good news for all of us &045; and a reminder that when we’re shopping for the latest toy or the perfect tie for Dad, there is no better place to go than stores here in the Miss-Lou.
Not only will residents find a great selection &045; from unique gift items at the shops and antique stores downtown to the hottest items on children’s lists at stores throughout the region &045; they will also, in a way, be paying themselves back.
It’s simple economics: The money spent in Natchez stays in Natchez. Say you’re looking for a green sweater. If you spend your money at one of the local stores, the owner or manager of that store might have a little more money for a bigger Christmas feast. Then the local grocery store employees have more money to spend on other goods and services &045; which more than likely will end up putting money in your pocket as it cycles back around.
And while we’re in the mood for giving gifts, it can only help all of us not only to shop at home but to give at home, too.
With so many opportunities to share our blessings this season &045; from Christmas tree funds to food drives to coat collections &045; we have no reason not to fulfill the wish lists of those less fortunate this year.
We’re off to a good start on the holiday season &045; and we hope it continues to get better for everyone.
