WOODVILLE &045; All these non-district games are tune-ups in the grand scheme of things.

So that’s how the WCCA Lady Rams tabbed their 42-20 loss to Bowling Green Thursday at the WCCA Shootout. The Lady Rams were awfully cold on the offensive end in their first game back from the holidays and didn’t get anything going really until the fourth quarter.

By that time Bowling Green led 39-8.

&uot;We looked at today like a practice,&uot; WCCA head coach Paul Hayles said. &uot;We’re in growing pains right now, and we’ve got to learn how to play hard and don’t let up. Erin Ashley played hard for us, but it’s hard to dribble the ball down yourself and pass the ball to yourself. We knew we had to take our lumps in our first year.&uot;

Ashley, the Lady Rams’ big center, did the best she could and scored all of the team’s eight points in the first three quarters. Her basket in the first quarter was the team’s only offensive showing when she scored the game’s first basket.

Bowling Green then led 22-2 at halftime and scored the first basket of the second half when Courtney Bond knocked down a shot 13 seconds in.

The Lady Rams (4-7) found a rhythm in the fourth quarter when Cary Benton hit a 3-pointer at the 3:58 mark to put the deficit at 39-12. Ashley scored on a putback right after that and hit a free throw with 3:09 left for a 39-15 deficit, and she followed that with another bucket at the 1:53 mark.

Ashley had 13 points for WCCA. Victoria Seal led Bowling Green with 10.

Adams Christian 52, Centreville 35

WOODVILLE &045; The Lady Rebels (12-3) used a solid first half to get a leg up on the Lady Tigers and finished it out in the second half for the win at the WCCA Shootout.

Adams Christian led 17-9 at the end of the first and outscored Centreville 12-8 in the third and 13-6 in the fourth.

Mattie Geoghegan led ACCS with 17 points. Brittany Boatner led Centreville with 13.

Monterey 42, St. Joseph 31

MONTEREY, La. &045; A sluggish second quarter didn’t doom the Lady Wolves (14-7), who rebounded nicely in the third to take the win.

The score was knotted at 15 at halftime, but the Lady Wolves rolled off 13 points to St. Joseph’s five to lead 28-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

Brittany Woodruff led Monterey with 14 points.

Tensas 64, Prairie View 37

BASTROP, La. &045; The Lady Chiefs were able to avoid foul trouble and finish the Prairie View doubleheader tournament with a couple of wins heading into the district opener Monday at Briarfield.

The Lady Chiefs (9-6) had foul trouble in the first half and led 23-18 at the break before outscoring Prairie View 18-14 in the third for a 41-32 heading into the fourth quarter. There they put the hurt on the Lady Spartans by outscoring them 23-4 for the easy win.

Aubrey McEachern led Tensas with 25, while Megan Bauerle had 13.

Franklin 68, Lawrence Co. 42

MONTICELLO &045; The Lawrence County Lady Cougars used their home-court advantage to get off to a roaring start against the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs Thursday night at the Lawrence County Tournament.

But just as they quick as Lawrence County had the advantage, they lost it thanks to a change in defense by Franklin County in the second quarter that led a change in momentum and a 68-42 win over the Lady Cougars in this round-robin tournament.

Lawrence County, led by Laneisha Gardner, was pretty much hitting on all cylinders offensively in the first quarter, as the host team gave Franklin County all it could handle as the Lady Cougars had a 20-17 lead by the end of the second quarter. Gardner led the Lady Cougars with 20 points.

Then came the second quarter, which Franklin County (10-1) dominated on both ends of the court.

&uot;We went to some pressure defenses,&uot; Lady Bulldogs head coach Charles Moore said. &uot;We went to full-court and three-quarters court. We were able to force turnovers and get some easy looks at the basket.&uot;

Shareka Hunt scored 12 of her game-high 22 points in the second quarter. She scored her 22 points in the first three quarters. Franklin County outscored Lawrence County 26-2 in that pivotal quarter to give the Lady Bulldogs a 43-22 lead at halftime.

Harrisonburg 43, Vidalia 22

SICILY ISLAND, La. &045; Harrisonburg’s Jasmine Dunbar almost scored as many points by herself as the Lady Vikings did as a team as scored 21 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs to the win at the C.B. Coney Memorial Tournament.

Harrisonburg took a commanding 19-4 lead at the end of the first quarter over Vidalia (1-14) and the Lady Vikings were unable to get back in the game.
