Miss-Lou law enforcement agencies intend to do their part tonight to keep drunk drivers off the streets.
In Concordia Parish, the sheriff’s office will be offering a tipsy taxi service throughout the night, spokeswoman Kathleen Stevens said.
&uot;We don’t want anyone driving impaired,&uot; she said. &uot;They should call if they feel like they need a ride. We are ready to assist.&uot;
Stevens also said the CPSO will have extra patrolmen out watching the roads.
To contact the CSPO for a ride call: 386-2200 in Monterey, 757-3162 in Ferriday and 336-5280 in Vidalia.
In Adams County, Sheriff Ronny Brown said his officers would also provide rides to anyone too impaired to drive. The ACSO can be reached at 442-2752.
Brown said his office would have extra patrols and be in cooperation with the Mississippi Highway Patrol if they wanted to do a roadblock.
In Natchez, Police Chief Mike Mullins is hopeful that a streak of several safe New Year’s Eves will continue tonight.
&uot;The patrolmen will be especially alert for any erratic driving,&uot; Mullins said. &uot;We’ve had several years without a serious injury on New Year’s Eve, and we want to continue that trend.&uot;
Mullins said he felt drivers were more aware now of the danger of driving drunk.
&uot;Everyone’s sensitive to traffic accidents and how alcohol relates to those,&uot; he said. &uot;That’s evidenced by the fact that we have not had a lot of serious accidents over the last few years.&uot;
