Of all the improvements those inside and outside the education system have said schools need, one of the most important is parent involvement.

This Saturday, parents in Concordia Parish have a great opportunity to take part in their children’s education.

The school district will hold its 10th annual &uot;Parentfest,&uot; an event designed to offer parents ideas, suggestions and techniques for helping their children perform better in school.

This is a great opportunity for parents to get an idea of the tools available to them to help their children with their studies.

Afternoon topics will include testing, behavior management, reading and math strategies and thinking skills.

But the program will also give parents a chance to see just what their students are learning. For example, the Ferriday Lower Elementary Honors Choir will perform at 10:30 a.m.

In fact, parents have few excuses not to go; lunch, babysitting services and transportation will be provided.

The event, which is put on every year by the school board and the Title I program, will be held in the Ferriday High School gym.

It’s been proven that parental involvement is one of the keys to success for students and for school communities.

We hope all parents will take advantage of this free program to get to know more about their children’s education.
