Lawsuit shows need for continued reform

In the same week that President Bush tried to breathe new life into the national debate over tort reform, one of the best examples of the need for such reform was filed in a Cleveland court.
A regular viewer of the TV show &uot;Fear Factor&uot; handwrote a lawsuit seeking $2.5 million in damages because the man threw up after watching contestants eat rats mixed in a blender.
We can’t imagine this lawsuit will get very far, but then who would have believed hot coffee from McDonald’s would garner a multi-million settlement? The now infamous case was one of the first that helped draw attention to lawsuit abuse.
If anything comes of this frivolous lawsuit, we hope it is greater emphasis on the need for tort reform across the country.
Mississippi has succeeded in passing tort reform legislation that got us out of the famed &uot;judicial hellhole&uot; designation from the American Tort Reform Association.
We hope reform continues and halts these kinds of ridiculous lawsuits.
