Centreville gets past Trinity girls; Adams Christian wraps up 3-AA title

CENTREVILLE &045; Trinity managed to get the lead just twice and saw a three-point lead after three quarters slip away as Centreville outscored the Lady Saints 14-8 in the fourth quarter and celebrated Senior Night with a 45-42 win Friday.
&uot;I have three seniors on the team,&uot; Lady Tigers head coach Penny Sawyer said. &uot;They played like seniors tonight. My whole team played good. Tonight was Centreville’s night.&uot;
Kelly Simpson led Centreville (11-11, 4-6) with a game-high 18 points and Ash Brashier added 11 points. The Lady Tigers did a good job defensively on Trinity’s Mallory Archer as she was held to 12 points.
While Trinity (15-9, 6-5) played better defense in the second quarter, holding Centreville to seven points, its offense still had problems with the Lady Tigers’ defense. Despite that, the Lady Saints were only down by five, 23-18, at halftime.
Huntington 53, Franklin Academy 31
WINNSBORO, La. &045; Huntington got another win, jumping out early against Franklin Academy and then using a 20-point third quarter to pull away.
The Lady Hounds led 28-14 at halftime.
Katie Moak led her team with 22 points.
Adams Christian 64, Riverfield 50
RAYVILLE, La. &045; While the Lady Rebels’ offense was playing one of its best first halves of the season, the defense was having a tough time stopping the Lady Raiders as they led by just six at halftime.
Then at halftime Lady Rebels head coach John R. Gray made a key defensive adjustment that worked in the third quarter as they outscored the Lady Raiders 19-6 and went on to the 14-point win in an MPSA District 3-AA matchup.
ACCS improved to 19-5 overall and 8-1 in district play. That 8-1 record assured the Lady Rebels of the No. 1 seed in the district tournament.
Neither team gave an inch in the first quarter, which ended up tied at 16-16. The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Raiders 16-10 in the second quarter to take a 32-26 halftime lead.
The third quarter proved to be the turning point of this game as the Lady Rebels dominated both ends of the court.
St. Aloysius 36, Cathedral 30
VICKSBURG &045; After a sluggish first half, the second turned out to be more suspenseful for the outcome of the game. St. Al came through to claim a win.
The game was tied 4-4 at the end of one quarter and 6-6 with just over a minute to play in the second. Cathedral (3-16, 0-8) missed its first nine free throws, while St. Al shot 25 percent from the field and committed 15 turnovers in the first half.
Things improved in the second half, at least for St. Al. The Lady Flashes outscored Cathedral 14-4 in the period, and Sarah Kerut scored six straight points in the last two minutes to give St. Al a 22-17 lead.
Wilkinson County 65, North Pike 35
WOODVILLE &045; The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 21-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
Kim Griffin led four players in double-figures for first-place Wilkinson County (16-5, 7-1) with a game-high 21 points.
Ferriday 47, Vidalia 18
FERRIDAY, La. &045; For the first time in a while, the Lady Trojans played a solid first quarter as they took an 18-4 lead at the end of the quarter en route to the 29-point win.
Tensas 62, Briarfield 40
ST. JOSEPH, La. &045; The Lady Chiefs took control of this game early and led 19-6 at the end of the first quarter as they remain undefeated in District 7-A.
Aubrey McEacharn led Tensas (16-6, 6-0) with 17 points.
Monterey 57, Forest 44
FOREST, La. &045; The Lady Wolves led at the end of the first, second and third quarters to slowly pull away for the win in a District 3-B game.
Brittany Woodruff led Monterey (18-9, 3-1) with a game-high 24 points.
Jefferson 51, Amite County 26
FAYETTE &045; The Lady Tigers pulled away by outscoring the Lady Trojans 20-7 in the second quarter for their second win in Division 7-3A this season.
