VIDALIA, La. &045; If convicted the parents of the 1-year-old boy killed in a December mobile home fire could face up to five years in jail, a $5,000 fine or both, according to Louisiana law.

Tyrone Davis, 34, and Tamika S. Turner, 24, are being held on $25,000 bond on charges of negligent homicide.

The Dec. 13 fire that killed the boy and sent a 3-year-old female to the hospital was started by an electric heater, Police Chief Billy Hammers said. The parents were outside the home when the fire started.

&uot;Leaving those kids in the house by themselves with an electric heater on, that was negligent,&uot; Hammers said.

Vidalia Fire Department investigators and the state fire marshal ruled the cause of fire accidental shortly after the incident, Assistant Chief Ben Adams said.

Vidalia Police received a warrant for the arrest of Davis and Turner about two weeks ago, Hammers said.

&uot;They were out of town,&uot; he said. &uot;We called them and they voluntarily came in on Tuesday.&uot;

Adams said the last information he’d heard on the 3-year-old was good and that she was recovering.
