&uot;They talked about it a lot,&uot; Huntington head coach Cliff McCain said. &uot;They wanted to go out and represent the school on our home floor. They had a slow start this year, and this is a pretty big accomplishment for them. We’re pleased to be here after last year and how slow we started (this year).&uot;

The Hounds (5-5, 9-13) jumped out to a solid lead with a 15-8 lead by the end of the first and a 29-12 lead at halftime. They outscored Tallulah (0-10, 3-17) 19-7 in the third to lead 48-19 heading into the fourth quarter.

PELAHATCHIE &045; So the ending may have been boring. But the Green Wave is excited about where it’s at in the Division 7-1A standings right now &045; sitting in third place.

That was due to Thursday’s win over the Chiefs to pull the season sweep in case of a tie-breaker. Both teams have two games remaining &045; the Wave (5-5, 9-13) visits West Lincoln Tuesday before hosting Enterprise to end the season.

The Green Wave had to pull away in the second half to get the win. Matt Goss had all of his team-high 21 points after halftime.

&uot;He had a lot of good looks in the first half, and we told him to keep shooting,&uot; CHS head coach Peter Arnold said. &uot;He’s a good shooter. It’s just a great comeback win for us after losing the other night (to MSD). We didn’t play with a lot of life, but we came back with a lot of energy.&uot;

The Chiefs (5-5, 8-13) led 18-13 after one and 28-23 at halftime before the Green Wave held a 19-11 advantage in the third to lead 42-29 heading into the fourth quarter.

MONROE, La. &045; The Chiefs struggled from the start up against a motivated River Oaks squad and dropped an important contest.

But there’s still hope. Since the loss put both teams at 6-4 to end the regular season, they’ll play again at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Academy to decide who goes into next week’s South State tournament as the No. 2 and 3 seeds.

The Mustangs (6-4, 14-8) led 9-5 after one and 23-15 at halftime before pulling away in the second half.

&uot;We just didn’t shoot well,&uot; Tensas head coach Chris Jacobs said. &uot;We had 15 turnovers in the first half, didn’t shoot squat as far as free throws, couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn and still were down by eight. But it didn’t get any better in the second half.&uot;

Matt Vinson led Tensas (6-4, 10-11) with 11 points.
