VIDALIA &045; The parents of a 1-year-old charged with negligent homicide in the boy’s December death will appear in court for preliminary examination on May 11.
The next step in the legal process for Tyrone Davis and Tamika S. Turner was set Wednesday in Concordia Parish’s Seventh Judicial District Court.
The couple was arrested in late January when they turned themselves in at the Vidalia Police Station.
The child died inside a mobile home on Dale’s Alley on Dec. 13 in the early morning hours. The fire was in the bedroom where the child was sleeping, while the parents were outside in the yard.
A 3-year-old girl was also injured in the fire, but has since recovered.
Police Chief Billy Hammers said the fire was started by an electric heater.
The charge of negligent homicide in Louisiana carries a penalty of up to five years in jail, a $5,000 fine or both.
Both are being held on $25,000 bond.
The judge took a request for bond reduction under advisement Wednesday.
