FERRIDAY &045;&045; New Orleans Queen of Soul Irma Thomas and Clarence &uot;Frogman&uot; Henry will headline this year’s Delta Music Festival on April 2.
Both performers will be inducted into the Delta Music Museum’s Hall of Fame during the festival.
Thomas, a New Orleans native, was discovered in a club in 1959 and has been called one of the most enduring soul survivors in contemporary music. She has produced chart-topping songs, including her debut single &uot;You Can Have My Husband (But Don’t Mess with my Man).&uot;
She is a two-time Grammy nominee and the recipient of a Pioneer Award from The Rhythm and Blues Foundation.
Henry’s &uot;Frogman&uot; nickname came from his trademark croak. His 1956 hit &uot;Ain’t Got No Home&uot; jumpstarted his career. His music has been featured in several movies including &uot;Forrest Gump.&uot; He still performs today in New Orleans.
Festival Chairman Judith Bingham said the committee was excited about the performances.
&uot;Irma Thomas is a Delta musician who has done a great job in jazz and soul music,&uot; Bingham said. &uot;She has a well known celebrity status. ‘Frogman’ is the same way.&uot;
Local talent will open the festival at 9:30 a.m. followed by the museum inductions and the headliner performances.
Bingham said this year’s posters are at the printer now and vendors are being lined up.
