COUSHATTA, La. &045; Ferriday missed too many layups and it cost the Trojans dearly.

Ferriday (20-12) had its season ended Friday night by Red River, who beat the Trojans 68-51 in the first round of the LHSAA playoffs.

&uot;We missed so many layups in the first half. I’ve never seen a team miss so many layups,&uot; Ferriday coach James Davis said. &uot;We got down by 20 at that time and just couldn’t seem to get things going. Every time we made a run, they came back with a run.&uot;

The Trojans trailed 40-20 at halftime after being outscored 27-8 in a second quarter in which the Trojans didn’t execute well, Davis said.

&uot;It was the second quarter that put us behind. We didn’t get anything,&uot; Davis said. &uot;In the playoffs against a good ball club, you just have to execute. We had too many turnovers, and you can’t afford to do that.&uot;

The Trojans made some inroads in the second half but still lost by 17 points.

Davis said he hopes this will be a learning experience for his team as they move towards next season.

&uot;We’ll come back strong next year,&uot; Davis said.
