Lady Vikings clip Sterlington in eight; MHS wins again

STERLINGTON, La. &045; Thursday night’s game between Vidalia and Sterlington turned out to be a pitchers’ dual between the Lady Vikings’ Christy Corley and the Lady Panthers’ Brittany Bowen.

But it was the top of the eighth in which Vidalia got to Bowen, took advantage of a couple of critical miscues at inopportune times for Sterlington, and scored three runs to take a 4-1 win.

and stayed that way until the eighth when Vidalia (12-8-2) finally took control. Tori Lemoine was at third and Chelsie McElewee was at second with Chelsey Knapp batting.

Tori Lemoine scored on a passed ball to break the tie, and Sterlington’s catcher overthre the plate to to score Chelsie McElwee for a 3-1 lead. Chelsey Knapp singled and scored on a double by Lauren Clayton.

Monterey 8, Epps 2

EPPS, La. &045; For the first six innings, the Lady Wolves had a tough time scoring and getting hits against Epps pitcher Jamie Duckworth.

Then they opened up a close game with a six-run rally in the seventh for the win to remain undefeated in District 3-B.

&uot;It was a little slower (pitcher) than what we’re used to,&uot; Lady Wolves head coach Hazel Brallier said. &uot;We had to adjust to it. We had a really good defensive game.&uot;

Monterey managed just one run off Duckworth in the top of the first and fifth innings before their big seventh inning that put Epps (0-3, 3-10) away.

Monterey (3-0, 12-5-1) got another solid performance from pitcher Whitney Price, who struck out nine.
