Rams win big; CHS, Rebels win

PRENTISS &045; Collin Dor and Corey Ellis combined to pitch a two-hitter, while Dor and Blake Fontenot had key hits during a 10-run third inning as the Wilkinson Christian Rams defeated Prentiss Christian 17-1 Tuesday.

&uot;We finally got the bats going in the third inning,&uot; Rams head coach Ray Olive said. &uot;We chiseled away at them in the first two innings.&uot;

The Rams (4-1, 7-3) score one run in the top of the first and three in the top of the second before putting the game away in the top of the third.

The big hits in that third inning were a two-run triple by Dor and a two-run home run by Fontenot.

&uot;Once we started hitting, it got contagious,&uot; Olive said. &uot;After those two hits we had five straight hits, two doubles and three singles.&uot;

Dor, the winning pitcher, pitched the first two innings, striking out five of the six batters he faced. Ellis pitched the final two innings. He struck out four batter, gave up both hits and the one run.

Vidalia 8, Oak Grove 3

VIDALIA, La. &045; After having a tough time against the Tigers’ pitcher (no name available), the Vikings finally got going with five runs in the bottom of the fifth and held on for the win.

&uot;They had a good pitcher out there,&uot; Vikings assistant coach Tim Herndon said. &uot;He threw four different pitches. He threw a changeup, fastball, his split-finger fastball was working. He kept us off-balanced.&uot;

Vidalia (15-3) countered with Will Thomas, was making his first start on the mound and was magnificent. Thomas threw 80 pitches in six innings. Lance Moore closed things out in the seventh.

Tensas 12, Briarfield 6

ST. JOSEPH, La. &045; The Chiefs rallied from a 6-3 deficit by scoring nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pick up their first win of the season in MPSA District 7-A.

Things did not look good for Tensas (1-3, 3-5), which had five errors and got just four hits after five innings against the Rebels’ pitching.

Adams Christian 15, Copiah 1

GALLMAN &045; The Rebels, the No. 3 team in the MPSA, got big hits from David Alton New, Ray Simpson and Timmy Foster during a 10-run third inning to put away the Colonels to remain undefeated in MPSA District 3-AA.

&uot;We came out focused,&uot; Rebels head coach Gill Morris said. &uot;Offensively and defensively, this is the best game we’ve played in a while. We came out very aggressive at the plate.&uot;

ACCS (5-0, 10-2) got an RBI double from Foster to begin the scoring barrage in the top of the third.

Cathedral 14, Enterprise 1

BROOKHAVEN &045; Zach Calhoun overcame seven walks by striking out 14 batters and allowing just one hit as the Green Wave rolled to an impressive win over the Yellow Jackets in a Division 7-1A game.

&uot;He’s just got to do a better job of getting ahead of the hitters and working on his control,&uot; Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said.

Other than that, it was business as usual for defending Class 1A state champion Cathedral (6-0, 15-2), which used a 12-hit attack to put away Enterprise (3-3, 7-6).

Columbia Academy 11, Trinity 1

COLUMBIA &045; The Cougars got a solid pitching performance from Bret Farris and scored at least two runs in the four innings they scored to take the win in an MPSA District 4-AA game.

The Saints (0-7, 3-12) got one run off Farris in the top of the first inning, but was shut out after that.

Harrisonburg 5, Block 2

JONESVILLE, La. &045; The Bulldogs rallied from a 2-1 deficit with one run in the top of the sixth inning that gave them the lead for good.
