MACON &045; Even with a 4-0 lead going into the fifth inning, Huntington head coach Mitch Ashmore had to be concerned with his team’s offensive production.

The Hounds ended up managing just two hits after the first inning, yet it was the defense that also had him frustrated as the Central Academy Vikings took advantage of some untimely miscues to rally for a 5-4 win Thursday night to tie this MPSA Class A first-round series at 1-1.

The deciding third game to decide which team will take on the winner of the Riverdale-Amite School Center in the second round will be at 7 p.m. today at Huntington.

Central Academy (19-7) cut into Huntington’s deficit by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth. After the Vikings scored one run to tie the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh, the winning run score on an error in left field.

Huntington (17-6) scored its first two runs in the top of the first. Jacob Bonnette singled, moved to third base on a double by Chad Thomas and scored on a sacrifice fly by Trey Corbett. Thomas later scored on a sacrifice fly by Ples Arthur.

The Hounds increased their lead to 3-0 as Bonnette walked, stole second, was bunted over to third by Thomas and scored on a sacrifice fly by Corbett in the top of the third.

Huntington then made it a 4-0 game as Mike Ferguson scored from first base on an attempted pick-off throw by pitcher Boykin, whose throw ended up going into right field.

Ashmore, however, wasn’t too pleased with the team’s offensive production, mainly only getting four hits.

Vidalia 18-18, LPHS 0-0

VIDALIA, La. &045; The Vikings, the No. 6 team in the latest Louisiana Association of Baseball Coaches’ Class 2A poll, had their way with the Panthers as both games of a varsity doubleheader took just three innings.

Game one winning pitcher Brett Hinson and game two winning pitcher Lance Moore each threw a no-hitter. Hinson pitched a perfect game and Moore was a hit batter in the second away from having a perfect game of his own.

Will Thomas hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning in the first game. Hinson hit a three-run homer in the second in the second game.

Parklane 14, Trinity 0

McCOMB &045; The final game of the season was not a good one for the Saints, who finished their season at 5-19 after the Pioneers’ Jeremy Wallace threw a no-hitter in a four-inning contest.

Parklane (19-11) made sure this game was going to end early by scoring nine runs in the first and four more in the second.
