VIDALIA, La. &045; Triand &uot;Tron&uot; McCoy unseated incumbent District 1 Alderman Carter Warner in Saturday’s runoff elections with 179 votes, or 55 percent, to Warner’s 147 votes.
&uot;I’d like to thank God first of all, and then thank the people in District 1 who thought enough of me to support me,&uot; McCoy said shortly after the results were tallied at about 8:40 p.m.
&uot;And for those who didn’t support me, I hope to gain their confidence during this term in office.&uot;
After weeks of hard campaigning, McCoy said his next order of business was to spend some time with his family.
Although McCoy said he will need some time to brief himself on all the information he’ll need as alderman, he has already said in print recreation programs will be something he will champion.
Warner has served eight years as District 1 alderman.
In Ferriday, Glenn Henderson won 69 votes, or 59 percent, to Marion Terrell’s 47 votes to win the District B council seat in Ferriday.
While Henderson could not be reached for comment Saturday night, he has said he would push for more organized town recreation programs.
He has also said he would try to find grants to help people start new businesses in Ferriday and address water and street problems.
Concordia Parish Clerk of Court Clyde Ray Webber said the 34 percent election turnout was actually more than he expected, especially given that only two council races were being held.
&uot;I expected closer to 25 percent,&uot; Webber said. &uot;Evidently, the candidates campaigned pretty hard.&uot;
