NATCHEZ &045;County supervisors on Monday named seven people they will interview to fill the Economic Development Authority Board position from which Bobby Duncan recently resigned.
Earlier this month, the Board of Supervisors accepted Duncan’s resignation.
On Monday, supervisors President Darryl Grennell nominated four people he said called him inquiring about the position &045;Stephen Guido, Vidal Davis, Marion Smith and Layne Taylor.
Supervisor Henry Watts nominated Nahar Q’Adan and Bill Jones, while Supervisor S.E. &uot;Spanky&uot; Felter nominated Jimmy June.
&uot; This is the largest number of nominees we’ve ever had&uot; for an EDA position, Grennell said.
The board tentatively set Friday morning as the time it will interview candidates for the post.
In addition, the Board of Supervisors appointed Lee Jones of J.M. Jones Lumber Co. to the Natchez-Adams Port Commission.
In making the motion to appoint Jones, Supervisor Sammy Cauthen said Jones has a keen interest in the port as well as experience with the global market.
In other business, supervisors voted to ask the Mississippi Development Authority for $147,000 more in loan funds for site development and construction at the port site to be occupied by Venco.
That is because additional work was needed and because bids received for the project came in higher than expected, Grennell said.
The Baton Rouge-based company, which serves the oil and gas industry, has guaranteed at least a minimum of 50 people with wages at least twice minimum wage, local officials have said.
Venco broke ground Oct. 31 at the port.
