It will be more than a month before road construction on Louisiana 131 to Deer Park is completed.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation is working to realign the road near St. Genevieve in an effort to decrease the steep incline up the levy, District Construction Manager Ken Free said.

Local contractor Camo Construction is doing the work, which is about half complete.

Free said the road currently has a steep grade, nearly 30 feet to the top, and a rough curve. The road project will eliminate the curve and made the approach more gradual.

The project is one of three the DOT is working on in Concordia Parish. Louisiana 566 from Frogmore to Dunbarton is undergoing road stabilization work.

Workers will remove the current asphalt, treat the soil and rebuild about 8.6 miles of the road.

Free said that project should be complete within the next 45 days. The total time for project completion is 80 days.

Minor repair work on U.S. 65 just north of Clayton should start soon and be complete within 45 days. DOT crews will patch holes and do joint repair on the road.
